Values are given as means ± standard deviation. Normoxic conditions for MRI cover 24 h before the switch to hypoxia, to account for the lower number of sampling points. Hypoxic conditions reflect conditions for the last 3.5 h of low water PO₂ levels. Asterisks show that the value under hypoxia is significantly different from the value under normoxia (Mann-Whitney-rank-sum-test, P < 0.05)
